First Tricks and Tools for My Tackle Box

One of the biggest things that stood out to me from this weeks lesson was the Levels of Recreation. Particularly I enjoyed the Pyramid that laid it all out so clearly for me.

This pyramid helps me to know what I want to focus on when I get out into the professional world of leisure and recreation. I want to help everyone be able to make strides into a higher level of the pyramid. Ideally, I also want to guide people away from the zero and sub-zero zones of the pyramid.

Another tool I plan on using is the motto from Brigham Young, "Eight hours work, eight hours sleep, eight hours recreation." It clearly teaches us how important it is to spend time finding joy and pleasure in life. It doesn't say exactly how that recreation should be spent, but that's because recreation means different things to different people. And that's okay.

Something that was said this week by one of my classmates about recreation that really stood out to me was, "It gives time for people to interact emotionally and to build healthy relationships and life styles." All I can really say to that is a big Amen! Recreation helps people on basically every level. Emotionally, spiritually, physically, and mentally. Also, I learned from working on my practicum this week just how many opportunities there are for volunteering and helping those with disabilities. It has been very eye opening for me.
